Guide Index. Where can I find "Mods"? Installing a "Mod". Launch the game with "Vortex". Learn more about "Vortex". Which "Mods" should I use? Resolving Mod "Conflicts". This guide takes approximately 10 minutes to read and 25 mins to fully understand. This tutorial will take you step-by-step through the process of downloading mods from nexusmods.

Create an account on the nexusmods. Download the "Vortex" Client. Finding mods can be done in various ways found in the Files drop-down menu on the top of the website.

From here you can browse the categories, top files, use the advanced search, search by tags, or browse the Files of the Month. Once you've found a mod read the description, then click the "Files" tab. You will now be presented with one or more files, categorized as Main files, Updates, Optional files, Old files, and miscellaneous.

Which file s to download varies from mod to mod, so be sure to read the installation instructions! Now you have two ways to download the file. You can either download it through Vortex recommended , or you can download it manually.

Vortex: Click the Mod Manager Download button on the file you want to download. This will open Vortex and begin the download. Manual: Click the Manual Download button. A small window will open, where the download will either automatically start, you will be prompted with a donation request, or the required files will be listed. If it does not automatically start the download, simply click the Download button. You have now downloaded a "mod". Navigate to the 'files' tab of the Vortex download page and click "Manual Download".

This will start the download. According to your browser's settings, you may be asked where to save the file or it may be saved to a specified location. After the download has completed, run the downloaded file which will begin the installation process.

After a few moments, the installation process will be complete and Vortex will launch automatically. Click the "Login or Register" button found at the top of Vortex After granting Vortex access to your account, you will need to specify which games you would like to manage.

Click "Select a game to manage" found under "Let's get you set up" in the dashboard Navigate to the 'Discovered' tab. Vortex will try to automatically find valid installations of games it supports, which will be displayed there. Once the game you wish to manage is shown, click it's image to enable mod management for this guide, please choose Skyrim Special Edition or Fallout 4.

After your selection has been made, you will notice the game's image at the top left of Vortex, denoting that it is the game currently being managed. To do so, navigate to settings and click the 'mods' tab. There, set your base path to a folder that is located on the same partition as your game and ensure that the Deployment Method option is set to "Hardlink deployment". Thankfully though, Vortex makes it incredibly easy to download and manage mod installation.

The first mod you will be installing will be a simple one that replaces the background of your game's main menu, adding a Nexus Mods logo. Players may also wish to access their game saves to transfer them to a new PC or share them with friends. Whatever the reason, the answer is the same; you can find your Witcher 3 game save files at the following path:. The Witcher 3 mods folder location varies based on which platform you're using to play the game.

See help for your platform below. If you're playing Witcher 3 on Steam, and haven't changed your Steam library location you can find the mods directory at this path:. Unless you, or a 3rd party app, has created it previously, it won't exist. To open that path, simply open up a File Explorer window right click your start button and click File Explorer and paste the path into the address bar. Then proceed into the mods folder.

If that path doesn't exist, follow this guide to find out where your Witcher 3 installation is, then proceed to the mods folder or create it. If neither of those exist, you can find out where your Witcher 3 installation is on GOG by clicking the settings icon in the top left of GOG Galaxy, going to the Installing, updating tab where it's displayed next to Game installation folder :.
